In celebration of St. Lucia’s Independence Week, four primary schools across the island were recently gifted Buddy Ambassador Benches as part of a collaborative effort between Crystal Clear Water and the international anti-bullying organization, Buddy Ambassadors (BA). This partnership resulted in the installation of Buddy Benches at Roblot, Dugard, Blanchard, and Fond Assau Combined Schools, with the aim of promoting kindness and creating safe spaces for students, particularly on school grounds.
Founded by Saint Lucian author Loverly Sheridan, Buddy Ambassadors introduced the Buddy Bench programme to Saint Lucia in 2018. Since then, the organization has placed over 50 Buddy Benches in primary and infant schools across the island. Sheridan shared her thoughts on the initiative, stating, “The Buddy Ambassadors Program is student-led and focuses on the formative years because we believe the values instilled in children during these years are the ones they will carry with them as they grow.”
Crystal Clear Water is proud to support this initiative and emphasises the importance of fostering an environment that promotes kindness and empathy for future generations. Fern Wilson-Jean, Brand Manager of Crystal Clear Water, explained, “Our contribution reflects our commitment to partnering with organizations like Buddy Ambassadors that combat bullying and promote empathy in our schools. We believe the Buddy Bench initiative serves as a reminder that even the smallest gestures of kindness can have a lasting impact on someone’s life.”
The Buddy Bench is designed to serve as a visible symbol of a safe space for students who may feel lonely, providing an opportunity to make new friends. Students chosen as Buddy Ambassadors, along with other children, are encouraged to keep an eye on the Buddy Bench and invite anyone sitting there to join in activities. Repeated use of the bench signals a need for support, prompting school staff to intervene and help.
Crystal Clear Water is pleased to invest in programmes like Buddy Ambassadors, which contribute to the development of Saint Lucia’s youth. The brand commends Loverly Sheridan for pioneering the initiative and applauds the schools that have embraced and implemented it to support the well-being of their students.
