The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) effectively carried out a Special Tactical Intervention training programme, conducted by local RSLPF instructors, to greatly improve the operational readiness of its officers.

Held from January 29 to February 2, this intensive training aimed to equip personnel with essential skills for navigating high-risk environments, placing a strong emphasis on safety, critical decision-making, and teamwork.

The programme addressed crucial aspects, such as: – Officer and Public Safety: Emphasising security in high-risk operations.

Decision-Making in Tactical Operations: Formulating and implementing strategies before, during, and after major operations.

Human Rights and Use of Force: Upholding lawful and ethical interventions are maintained.

Operational Briefing and Debriefing: Preparing officers for thorough situational analysis.

Safe Vehicle Checkpoints: Conducting effective and controlled roadside operations.

Team Building and Confidence: Enhancing unity and trust among officers.

Managing Stress Under Pressure: Maintaining focus and making informed decisions in challenging conditions

Introduction to House Searches: Developing systemic approaches to building entry and clearance

A considerable amount of the training focused on familiarising participants with weapon systems, culminating in a comprehensive day of live-fire exercises at the range. This component equipped officers with skill and assurance in managing standard-issue firearms.

On February 7, at the Police Force Academy, participants celebrated their achievements during the graduation ceremony, where they proudly received their certificates for completing the programme. The event was attended by Prime Minister Phillip J. Pierre, the Minister for National Security, Sarah Dupres-Cotter, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Security, senior RSLPF command, the Chief Fire Officer, and the Assistant Director of the Bordelais Correctional Facility.

After the ceremony, Deputy Commissioner of Police Wayne Charlery officially recognised Superintendent Luke Defreitas with a High Commendation for his outstanding contributions to the January 31 Industry Choiseul Attempted Murder investigations.
