RSA Initiates Public Consultations on Draft Cannabis Bill

The Regulated Substance Authority (RSA) will initiate a series of Public Consultations today aimed at informing the public about the legislation needed to regulate the emerging cannabis industry in Saint Lucia.

Consultations will kick off at the Cool Breeze Conference Room in Soufriere at 6:00 pm, then on to Dennery, tomorrow at the Chateau Heritage at 6:00 pm.

Consultations will also take place March 4th at the Gros Islet Human Resource Centre and the following day in Vieux Fort at the Ministry of Commerce. Consultations will be held at the Babonneau Human Resource Centre on March 6th. Anse-la-Raye will host consultations on March 11th at the Parish Hall and Castries on March 12th at City Hall.

“We have a Draft Bill ready, and we will discuss this Draft Bill during these consultations,” Minister Hippolyte stated.

“We urge all of Saint Lucia to participate in these consultations,” she emphasized. “The introduction of a Cannabis Industry is vital for our country, and we want the public to engage in meaningful discussions.”

In addition to these consultations, Minister Hippolyte mentioned, “We will engage with targeted groups such as principals and students to ensure all key sectors are included.”

She highlighted that Saint Lucia hosted a Caribbean Symposium on Cannabis last year, which significantly influenced the Draft Cannabis Bill. “We have invited regional and international stakeholders to collaborate and provide feedback on this legislation,” she noted.

The Minister reiterated the importance of local input. “We need to understand how this industry will impact various stakeholders. The Bill addresses all relevant areas, and that’s why we’re focusing on open conversations within communities,” she said.

Minister Hippolyte pointed out that the Bill includes provisions for small farmers and retailers, emphasizing their need to voice their opinions. “We also invite the Rastafarian movement to participate in the consultations taking place around the island,” she said.
