The Saint Lucian public, particularly residents of the Corinth community, is devastated and outraged by the brutal shooting death of Alana Bernard earlier this week.

Bernard, 27, a committed single mother of three small children, was killed on her way home from work, as she neared the lane leading to her family’s property.

On Tuesday, about 4:57 p.m., police responded to a complaint of a shooting in Corinth, Gros Islet. When they arrived at the crime scene, they located Bernard lying lifeless on the ground. She was brought to OKEU Hospital for medical treatment, but her injuries proved fatal and she was declared dead.

According to reports, Bernard had just celebrated her birthday two days before and was looking forward to one of her children’s impending celebrations. According to unconfirmed reports, she was scheduled to appear in court the day after her death in connection with a sexual assault case, raising the possibility of a targeted attack.

Authorities are urging anyone with knowledge about the fatal shooting to contact the Gros Islet Police Station at 456-3830 or their local police station.

In a moving response to Bernard’s passing, Chef Robby Skeete, proprietor of Caribbean Pirates at Rodney Bay, revealed intentions to create a fund in her honour. Bernard worked at Skeete’s restaurant.

Skeete remarked, “We intend to keep her name on the list for tip sharing every month and allocate that to whoever is caring for the children quarterly.” We’ll create a fund in her name to honour her memory.”

Skeete emphasised Bernard’s coworkers’ strong emotional reactions, many of whom were visibly impacted by the event. “It has been tough on her colleagues; several were crying throughout the day. They were all very close to her, including my chefs, who were taken aback by the entire situation.”

The call for justice following Bernard’s death has echoed across the country, with many demanding justice. “It’s time for them to hang,” Bernard’s mother exclaimed following the tragic tragedy.

Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre remarked that Bernard’s death should enrage all Saint Lucians, noting, “Violence has no place in our society.” We must not turn a blind eye or remain silent as these senseless acts of violence destroy families and hinder the peace and prosperity of our country. The perpetrators of these heinous crimes must not find refuge in our communities; they must be brought to justice.”

Pierre added, “Our nation can only remain strong when we collectively denounce crime, uphold the law, and exhibit compassion, respect, and love for one another.”

Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet expressed his dissatisfaction, adding, “No family should have to endure this kind of pain. We must strive for a safer, more just society for all Saint Lucians.”
