THE Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) wishes to remind all citizens and visitors that acts of vandalism including graffiti and unauthorised advertisements on public and private structures are strictly prohibited by law. These measures are in place to safeguard the aesthetic integrity and safety of our public spaces and private properties.
Under Section 487 of the Criminal Code of Saint Lucia, the following prohibitions are outlined:
1. Prohibition of Unauthorised Advertisements and Articles
• It is unlawful for any person, other than the owner, occupier, or individual in charge of a structure, land, door, gate, window, tree, pole, or post, to exhibit or cause to be exhibited any article or advertisement on said property.
2. Prohibition of Defacement
• Writing, drawing, or marking on such property, including graffiti, is strictly prohibited.
On Saturday January 11, 2025, about 6:30 pm, the Choiseul Police Station initiated an investigation into the defacement of a bus shelter located in Belle Vue, Choiseul. The shelter had been sprayed with graffiti depicting the name “King Baros” and the number 6.
Following swift investigations, the offence was linked to twenty-seven year old Eric Poleon of Belle Vue Choiseul, who is also known by the nickname “King Baros.” On Wednesday January 15, 2025, Eric Poleon was formally charged with the offence of Defacement of a Structure.
The RSLPF takes this opportunity to urge the public to respect our shared spaces and comply with the law. Individuals found guilty of this offence are liable upon summary conviction, to a fine of $1,000.
Reports of vandalism or any similar acts can be made to your nearest police station.
