One male individual was shot dead by law enforcement officers during an attempted robbery, at a bar in Corinth, Gros Islet, last weekend, as the police continue with their effort to curb criminal activity, especially gun violence, on the island.
The deceased has been identified, as twenty-year-old Alex Straker.
Reports state that at about 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (December, 15) officers from the Northern Division visited a crime scene, at Corinth, following a foiled robbery attempt.
Investigations revealed that two males entered a bar, where they brandished firearms, making demands of the patrons therein.
Two licensed firearm holders who were present confronted the two men. One of the males was fatally wounded during the encounter.
Straker reportedly sustained an apparent gunshot injury to the chest. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for a subsequent date.
“I know… they won’t come back by Prio’s anymore. They would never take a chance. If they know… people are prepared to protect themselves… by having their firearm license I think that will keep them away,” Denis Louis, the owner of the bar told reporters recently.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (December, 16), police reported the discovery of a lifeless figure at George 5th Park, in Castries, at about 12.12 a.m. The body was simply identified as one “Mark”, who resided in Conway.
The victim was found motionless, with a laceration to his face; and was later conveyed to the Owen King European (OKEU) Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical practitioner.
In addition, on December 5, about 3:00 p.m. law enforcement officers attached to the Gros Islet Police Station responded to a report of vehicular assault at Rodney Heights, Gros Islet. The initial report indicated that a male suspect had driven his motorcar into a construction facility, following a confrontation with workers of the establishment.
Subsequently, investigations resulted in the arrest of Noel Nugent of Bella Rosa, Gros Islet, who was charged with the offenses of Dangerous Driving, Damage to Property, Harm, and Grievous Harm.
Nugent was escorted to the First District Court where he was granted bail, for $35,000 cash or suitable surety. His Driver’s Licence was also suspended, pending the outcome of the matter.
