Dora Henry Elected as New SLAA President

The Saint Lucia Athletics Association (SLAA) has elected a new president to oversee its operations.

Dora Henry has taken over the leadership of the SLAA from Brenadline Descartes, who decided not to seek re-election. The election and Annual General Meeting took place at the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) House on November 23.

Henry, who currently serves as the Assistant Administrator at Sir Arthur Lewis Community College (SALCC), won the election against Titus Elein with a vote of 18 to 6.

The newly elected executive members are as follows: – 1st Vice President: Makeba Alcide – 2nd Vice President: Patrick Mathurin – Secretary: Wayne Benti – Assistant Secretary: Cornelia Ann Shirley Lubin – Treasurer: Cornelius Breen (unopposed) – Public Relations Officer: Jonathan Emmanuel – Floor Representatives: Lisa Joseph and Laricia Laurent.

Henry, who was named Sports Administrator of the Year at the National Sports Awards, stated that her newly elected team will focus on several key areas: – Athletic-Focused Development – Youth Participation and Grassroots Development – Sponsorship and Financial Sustainability – Governance and Transparency – Female Participation in Athletics – Infrastructure Development.

Her election victory is anticipated to bring a fresh perspective to the management of the SLAA and to the development of sports in Saint Lucia. Henry will serve as president until 2026.
