The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. (WASCO) says it is pleased to announce the launch of a comprehensive communication Strategy and action campaign plan, aimed at fostering a climate-conscious nation that recognizes the need for water security. The two-year campaign, under the theme “Secure our Water, Secure our Future,” seeks to address the pressing challenges posed by climate change on the island’s water supply.
This campaign, which launched during Global Climate Change Week, aligns with international and national efforts to provide education in areas such as water security. WASCO’s goal is to inspire collective action and collaboration toward building a resilient and sustainable water sector. Increasing public awareness of climate change’s effects on water resources and catalyzing behavior change among citizens and key stakeholders are essential for adaption to occur.
“Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it’s a current reality that is reshaping our water supply system. Through this campaign, WASCO will raise awareness both within the organisation and externally – promoting tangible actions that every team member and citizen can take to ensure a secure water future for our nation,” said Mrs. Zilta Leslie, CEO of WASCO.
“Water security is everyone’s responsibility. Whether it’s individuals conserving water at home or businesses implementing water-saving technologies, we all have a role to play in ensuring that our future generations have access to clean and reliable water,” added the CEO.
Funded by the Green Climate Fund through the Caribbean Development Bank, and supported by the Government of Saint Lucia this campaign will be monitored through ongoing assessments, including public surveys and stakeholder feedback. These evaluations will help ensure that the campaign’s objectives are being met and that the public is actively engaged. Through this campaign and other critical initiatives, WASCO aims to build long-term resilience within Saint Lucia’s water sector, safeguarding the island’s water resources for current and future generations.
