Man Charged for Sofia Munoz’s Murder

24-year-old Jared Bouvell of Beausejour, Gros Islet has been formally charged for the murder of Sofia Munoz Pocon.

Munoz, a Guatemalan woman who lived in Saint Lucia, was killed at a building in Monier on Thursday, September 26. The 24-year-old woman was found in an unresponsive state, according to police.

She was stabbed repeatedly.

“Something very bad happened to her. She was a lovely person (and) everybody (liked) her,” Munoz’s father said in an interview, noting that “the authorities are doing (a) proper investigation.”

He said that his daughter was starting a relationship, but “all that is gone (and) there is nothing we can do.”

In a press release (on September 28), police said a suspect was in custody in connection with the homicide, however, details were few.

On Saturday, October 5, reports stated that Bouvell was charged with the murder of Munoz.

Acting Police Commissioner Verne Garde said that he will engage the media “to ensure that all matters are reported officially in its total capacity.”’

The Acting Commissioner is expected to meet with members of the media today.

An individual who is familiar with Munoz said she was a volunteer at a local organization.

“She was thinking the right way. (She joined) a charity and then something like that happened. That’s not right,” Jamil Joseph said.
