Creole Heritage Month Launched

The Monsignor Patrick Anthony Folk Research Centre (FRC), in collaboration with Hills and Valleys Events of Bexon, successfully launched Mwa Ewitaj Kwéyòl (Creole Heritage Month) 2024 on the Bexon Playing Field on September 22.

The event took the form of a mini Jounen Kwéyòl, where patrons enjoyed cultural performances by local artists and sampled traditional cuisine. A major highlight of the day’s proceedings was the performance by the internationally renowned Midnight Groovers Band from Dominica. The band did not disappoint, treating patrons to their signature CadenceLypso music, which made them famous in the 1970s.

While this was not the first time Mwa Ewitaj Kwéyòl was launched in an open setting, it was the first time the FRC granted a community such a high level of autonomy to design and host the event on its behalf. The FRC was pleased with the outcome, despite a smaller crowd due to competing activities on the same day.

Following the launch, the FRC has published the full calendar of events for Mwa Ewitaj Kwéyòl on its social media platforms and website. Detailed information on all activities, available in both Kwéyòl and English, can be accessed for each Host Community, the FRC, and Fringe Events. Visitors can find this information under the “Events” tab on the main page of the website at https://folkresearchcentre.org, or via links on Facebook, and Instagram.
