The month of October marks the formal end of the two-year tenure of the Board of Visiting Justices for the Bordelais Correctional Facility (BCF). The entity officially completed its two-year term on October 15, 2024.
As part of reporting on its stewardship, the Board of Visiting Justices recently met with the Minister for Home Affairs, Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities Honorable Jerimiah Norbert, to officially report on its stewardship.
The Chairperson of the Visiting Board of Justices for the Bordelais Correctional Facility Mr. Geoffrey Devaux, described the dialogue with the Minister for Home Affairs, Crime Prevention and Persons with Disabilities as extremely engaging and rewarding. Mr. Devaux noted that the board members were very pleased with the direction of the minister’s plans to strengthen the Facility in key areas.
Section 39 (2) of the Correctional Services Act, Caption 14.02 provides for the establishment of a Board of Visiting Justices, whose main functions include hearing the concerns of inmates in order to render assistance, while also considering the concerns of the administrators of the Facility.
Minister Norbert profusely thanked the entire board for efficiently carrying out their responsibilities and for having a positive impact on the inmates at the Bordealis Correctional Facility.
The outgoing members of the board comprised Mr. Geoffrey Devaux who served as the chairperson, Dr. Urban Seraphin, Mr. Stephen Griffith, and Ms. Verna Mondesir who served in the capacity of secretary.
The members of the Board of Visiting Justices also paid solemn tribute to deceased board member Mr. John Daniel who passed away a few months ago, for his many years of dedicated service to the Board and the BCF.
