The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has launched a probe into the death of 13-year-old Melchizedek Gilbert Tixcy of Blanchard, Desruisseaux, who died this week, after being shot in the head.
Tixcy (said to have been asleep in his bed when the vicious act occurred), was shot around 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Police, in a report, stated that officers from the Micoud Police Station received and responded to a report of a fatal shooting at Blanchard, Desruisseaux.
The victim was identified as Tixcy of Blanchard Desruisseaux. He was conveyed to the St. Jude Hospital having sustained an apparent gunshot injury to his head. Whilst in care, he succumbed to his injury, and his death was subsequently confirmed by a medical practitioner.
“The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is urging persons with information regarding this homicide to contact the Micoud Police Station at 456-3670. Additionally, the Crime Hotline (555) and the RSLPF Crime Hotline App are available for anonymous reporting,” said the Force in an appeal to the public.
Tixcy’s death has caused widespread outrage on social media.
“He was always smiling. He walked me around and he’d guide me everywhere. He was a respectable (son),” his father, Antonious Tixcy, who is blind, told THE VOICE in an interview yesterday.
According to him, Melchizedek’s loved ones are completely shocked by his death.
“Everybody is shocked,” he said, adding that Melchizedek “was into Cadets, loved to cook, loved his (family) and playing football.”
Opposition Leader Allen Chastanet, in a Facebook post, stated that Tixcy “who was senselessly murdered while in the comfort of his home would have celebrated his 14th birthday (Friday).”
“By all accounts, he was a humble, intelligent, respectful, and promising young man who didn’t deserve this tragic fate. We cannot let him be remembered simply as the 49th homicide of 2024. He was a good kid, and his life mattered.
Let us honor Melchizedek’s memory by working together to create a safer environment for all our children and communities. Speak out, support initiatives against violence, and demand accountability and change from our leaders. Together, we can make a difference!” Chastanet stated.
The previous day, he’d also extended his condolences to the family and friends of the young teen.
