The excitement of the inaugural Semi-Professional Football League [SPFL] in Saint Lucia, now in its second round, continues at the Soufriere Mini Stadium this weekend with matches generating a lot of interest.

Today (Saturday), the action begins with a Tier II encounter, with Roseau v. Vieux Fort South at 6.30.p.m. The two teams have been quite impressive so far. Today’s game will be tough for both teams as they try to gain maximum points.

The Tier I match, will feature Gros Islet and Laborie, at 8.30p.m. Gros Islet has been holding its own as a wily contender among the top teams on the points table, while Laborie – known for its gritty play, will look to make it presence felt as another challenger in the league.

Tomorrow (June, 23), the schedule features:

Tier I – Central Castries vs Desruisseaux – 6.00p.m.
Tier II – Soufriere vs. Dennery – 8.00p.m.

June 7 –
VF South vs. Mon Repos 1-0,

Mon Repos vs. Babonneau 4-2.

Mon Repos registered its first win of the tournament with a clinical display versus Babonneau.

After a 1-1 score at the interval, the Mon Repos team went into the second half with newfound confidence, creating numerous chances. Mon Repos’ persistence paid off in the 70th minute when Jamil St. Paul latched onto a low cross and put them ahead 2-1.

Babonneau quickly retaliated with Malyk Athanase equalizing in the 76th minute. But Mon Repos wasn’t done. In the 82nd minute, Mitchum Francis netted a crucial goal, and just three minutes later, relentless pressure forced Babonneau’ s Davin Langiller into an own goal.

La Clery vs. Choiseul 5-1.
The latest match results indicate some notable movement at the top of the table that will impact the remaining matches.

Gros Islet maintained first place, but La Clery leap frogged two places to 2nd after their drubbing of Choiseul. Star forward Andrus Remy reminded everyone of his clinical finishing with a hat-trick that earned him 2nd place on the list of top10 goal scorers.

Gros Islet’s Troy Greenidge leads with a tally of six goals. Remy with three goals shares the second spot with four other players.

Dennery maintained their 3rd place, while Canaries moved up two notches into 4th place after being awarded three points from a previous encounter against Central Castries (April 07). Central Castries slid by three spots and are currently 5th on the table.
