The St. Lucia Olympic Committee (SLOC) Inc. has commenced plans for the hosting of Olympic Week which will run from Sunday, June 16 to Sunday June 23.
Olympic Week will open with the Olympic Day Walk on Sunday from 7:00 a.m. The walk will start outside the Castries Market at 7:00 a.m.
At the close of registration on Monday, (June 3), a total of 467 people were registered for the event.
The route is as follows: Start: on Jeremie Street in front of Castries Market. Turn right onto Chisel Street and then right onto Micoud Street. Then turn right onto Peynier Street and head up the John Compton Highway before turning right onto Sans Souci (Desir Avenue) and up L’Anse Road and head to Maranatha Church. Turn left into La Clery and head towards the west side of Olympic House before using the pedestrian crossing to cross the John Compton Highway and head towards Mandela Avenue and stop at Vigie Beach near the G.F.L. Charles Airport.
This year, SLOC Inc. plans to host activities closer to the beach to accommodate associations involved in water-based sporting activities. Therefore, walkers will remain at Vigie Beach for about three to four hours, where they will begin with a warm-down session with music, and associations are to organize aspects of their sporting disciplines for participants. Associations are encouraged to support each other’s sports and friends and family can participate in these events.
A Daily Quiz will run from 7:00 a.m. (Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 23) with a cut-off time of 6:00 p.m. Paris 2024 tokens will be given to three winners for each daily quiz.
The Schools’ Tree-planting Exercise will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at various schools in the island’s north.
A Virtual Exhibition showcasing the SLOC Inc.’s museum will be hosted during this year’s Olympic Week, with the link shared to associations via WhatsApp.
All Olympic Week activities will be posted on the SLOC Inc.’s Facebook and Instagram platforms.
The SLOC Inc. takes this opportunity to encourage all member associations and members of the public to participate in our planned activities for Olympic Week as we continue to promote the spirit and values of Olympism.
