Saint Lucia Appointed to UNESCO’s Memory of The World Committee

On June 11th 2024, Saint Lucia was appointed to serve on the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Committee of UNESCO´s Memory of the World (MoWLAC) for the period 2024-2028.

Mrs. Birch-McDiarmed, Librarian attached to the Hunter J. François Library of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College, was welcomed as a new member of the MoWLAC for the four-year period.

Established in the year 2000, the MoWLAC seeks to promote the preservation of and access to the Latin America and Caribbean documentary heritage and to set up a Memory of the World (MoW) Regional Register in the region.

MoWLAC consists of nine experts who have been select for their knowledge and expertise in the fields of library and information science, archives, documentary preservation or other areas related to MoWLAC’s work.

As a member of the elite team, Mrs. Birch-McDiarmed’s main function will be to support the MoW Programme with expertise in documentary heritage preservation. Specifically, she will contribute to evaluating the proposals that are annually submitted to the MoW Regional Register, and will participate in the Committee´s technical meetings, including the ordinary annual meetings.
