Former Olympian, heptathlon athlete and former Sports Woman for the Year 2013 – Makeba Alcide, in collaboration with the Saint Lucia Athletics Association, recently hosted the 3rd Annual Makeba Alcide Track and Field Classic at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

The event featured local athletes matching up for some exciting competition against athletes from Dominica and Montserrat. A record 406 athletes were registered to compete.

The 2023 CARIFTA double sprint silver medalist Naomi London opened her season in grand style with a personal best of 11.37 seconds in the 100 meters (national junior record- Julien Alfred held at 11.39 seconds).

According to Alcide: “I am thankful to everyone who made the event a success. We plan to grow as the years continue and to become a staple event for regional competition. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have already committed to being part of 2025, while Dominica and Montserrat will also return, and we hope to get more islands in the region on board so that we can bring a high-level competition to Saint Lucia. ”
