The Product Development and Advanced Industrial Automation course will equip students with advanced knowledge and practical skills aligned with the demands of the Caribbean’s industrial sector. Through a Project-Based Learning approach, students will participate in real-world projects guided by industry partners.

Dr. Sealy’s extensive experience in both academia and industry uniquely positions him to lead this project. Leveraging his expertise in design and industrial automation, he aims to integrate the two proposed courses seamlessly into UWI-Mona’s curriculum. The Product Development course will focus on parametric modeling, finite element analysis, and manufacturing optimization, while the Advanced Industrial Automation course will cover automation using single board computers, programable logic and computer numerical controllers. These courses will culminate in capstone projects that address real-world challenges identified by industry partners.

The implementation of these courses will have far-reaching impacts on both the host institution and Dr. Sealy’s home institution, Purdue University. At UWI-Mona, the project will strengthen the engineering programme, aligning it with industry needs and government initiatives to expand the Caribbean’s engineering workforce. Additionally, it will provide Purdue University with valuable insights into cross-cultural teaching methods and opportunities for international collaboration.

Dr. Sealy’s Fulbright project represents a significant step towards enhancing industry-academia collaboration and fostering engineering excellence in the Caribbean. By bridging the gap between theory and practice, Dr. Sealy aims to empower future engineers with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the Caribbean’s dynamic industrial landscape. This collaboration between Purdue University and UWI-Mona exemplifies the Fulbright programme’s commitment to promoting mutual understanding and global cooperation through education and research.
