Amidst the din of political controversies which have been resonating too often in Saint Lucia, the ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP) administration is planning a massive march to ward off the rumblings of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP).
It appears that the UWP’s recent ‘protest march’, in Vieux Fort, and other retaliatory measures has irked ( ruffled the feathers of) the composure of the SLP’s political machinery, and the party’s organ intends to make its presence felt in the country.
At a public forum in Laborie on Sunday, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre declared that the SLP plans to hold a ‘people’s march’ in Castries, next year. He appealed to the SLP supporters to turn out in large numbers and show their support for the SLP government.
In recent times, while the SLP has been vocally promoting the administration’s works on issues that include sustainable development, energy efficiency, the Youth Economy and other social programmes aimed at assisting the more vulnerable in society; the UWP have taken the regime to task on the St Jude Hospital fiasco, rising costs of living, and road maintenance among other matters.
“Tell them, don’t interfere with us too much. Let us run the country in peace and quiet,” said PM Pierre.
Addressing the audience he continued: “Because if they want to see demonstration, next year – next year we are going to have a people’s march for the government of the Saint Lucia Labour Party”.
“I am calling on the troops of the Saint Lucia Labour Party to take to the streets to support the government of the Saint Lucia Labour Party,” Pierre told the vociferous gathering at Sunday’s Town Hall meeting.
Town Hall meetings has been the order of the day, and the opposing camps and their supporters have been out in large numbers to debate on some pertinent national issues.
In pushing for an ‘early election’, the opposition UWP have been staging a series of town hall meetings, round table discussions and marches in an effort to energise its supporters.
“You know, we have remained quiet. We have remained silent. They continue to abuse us. They continue to lie on us. They continue to denigrate us. They continue to say the worse things about us,” the SLP leader stated, in reference to the opposition.
Citing the timeliness of this matter, he said, next year, before the independence day, the SLP will have a march in Castries.
In sounding the warning bells, the Castries East MP stated that next year’s event will be a “march of marches…it’s going to be a march where we will show them that we are happy with our government and we are moving forward.”
He called on the SLP supporters to have confidence in the current administration.
In an outright swing at the opposition, Pierre declared that it was absurd to hear such rantings emanating from “these destabilisers, these jealous, angry people who cannot understand that they have lost the general election, (come out) speaking so much nonsense …saying it is the government that cause the cost of living to go up.”
Honorable Pierre, remember, that the wicked are like the raging sea which cast up mire and dirt. There is no peace to the wicked.
Do not be envious at the oppressor and choose none of his ways.
The way of the wicked is as darkness, they know not at what they stumble.
It is a good thing to rally the people; to take a measure of RIGHTEOUSNESS in the land, for these are the days when all people of integrity must find the courage to stand and speak in the cause of those appointed to destruction.
This 21st. Century has opened on a vista of pandemonium. Every ghoul of wickedness has unfurled their banners of violence across the four corners of earth.
We see and hear the hackneyed lamentations of oppressed people everywhere- Palestine, Ukraine, is a fountain overflowing with the blood of innocent men, women and children crying to GOD – bon dieu, née miseracod asoo-nous- and humanity faces its its greatest decision again –
Choose you this day WHOM YOU WILL SERVE.
St. Lucians had the opportunity to see the ways of the Chastenet administration. They saw the disdain in which the integrity of the land was sold for gain.
Just as the people did rise up en mass and fotay-yo dewor comme un parchay hadde salle
So, now must they come together in solidarity to declare to the UWP that they will not be deceived by the fifty cents falsehoods that they have bought from La-place demoo to put more hurt on St. Lucians.
Whatever you do, Prime Minister Pierre, let it be seasoned with RIGHTEOUSNESS – Justice, judgment, TRUTH and equity;
Let knowledge, wisdom and understanding guide you.
And let compassion and kindness restore peace and security to all St. Lucians; that we can sing again –
Sainte lecee DOUX, DOUX comme sewo
May GOD bless your administration and our island home.
