OCTOBER has been designated as Creole Heritage month in the island of Saint Lucia, and this is due to the expansion of Creole Day Celebrations (Jounen Kwéyòl) , which has been traditionally held on the last Friday and Sunday in October, since 1984. Besides the old traditions being brought to the forefront and the rich cultural food that many patrons indulge in year after year, Saint Lucians look forward to immersing themselves in Creole music for October and even beyond. What a fitting time for a homegrown creole riddim!
Calypsonian, Musician and Producer TC Brown in his effervescent creative capacity, created and launched the KPT Douvan Riddim in 2022. This groovy creole-style riddim featured songs from the members of the Keep People Talking (KPT) Calypso Tent, including Blaze, Mystic, Keytinna, Dez Chattel, Pablo and Realist; and TC has also penned his own contribution to the riddim as the Tent’s Leader.
As Creole Heritage Month nears its culmination and its biggest event, Jounen Kweyol, TC has released a music video for his song Wékolté. The song reflects on the lessons our elders taught us, comparing those lessons to what is currently happening in our present society, especially with the young people. TC reminds us that we reap what we sow, so we should plant the right things not only for ourselves but for the generations to come.
Wékolté was written by Terry L. Cadette, produced by TC Brown and recoded at ChangaPro. The song was mixed and mastered by Drez of MRecords. The music video was produced and created by ChangaPro.
The track isn’t only for the creole season, but its easy-going groove and musical stylings is suited for any time of year!
Wékolté’s music video is now available on TC Brown’s YouTube Channel while the song is available on all streaming platforms.
