Saint Lucia is quickly emerging as a formidable competitor in the game of golf in the Eastern Caribbean following its capture, over the past weekend, of the most sought after award in team golf – the Gross Team Award.
The team, led by captain Tim Mangal and President Mario Reyes, participated in the Eastern Caribbean Golf Association Championship in Saint Kitts and did well enough to emerge champions, but the ladies on the team were actually the ones who took Team Saint Lucia to the trophy table.
While the men, in all categories, never came first, occupying second and third positions, the ladies upped their game by knocking out Saint Kitts, one of the powerhouses in golf in the subregion, to claim the first-place position hereby taking Team Saint Lucia to a magnificent win and the Gross Team Award which, Saint Lucia missed last year.
Team Saint Lucia was represented by Tim Mangal, Terry Verdant, Eugene Edwin, Canice Louis, Mc Hale Andrew, Romanus Inglis, Nicholas Beaubrun, Keymanie Thomas, Marisa Groenewald, Mara Thompson, Chloe Bourdon, Harith Khan and Mario Reyes.
Sweetening the victory for the local team was former West Indies Captain Daren Sammy who participated in the ECGA followerβs category winning both the Gross and Net awards.
