THREE thousand pensioners will each receive a one-time gift of $600 from the government next month, in addition to their monthly pension.
“First and foremost, this policy decision eases the financial burden on government pensioners who are living on fixed incomes. With the rising cost of living, many pensioners find it increasingly challenging to cover their basic needs, including healthcare, housing, and daily expenses,” explained a release from the Office of the Prime Minister.
Government did exactly the same thing one year ago when each pensioner received a one-time amount of $500.
“The $500 disbursement in October 2022 and the subsequent $600 to be disbursed in November 2023 significantly augment pensioners disposable income, providing them with the means to maintain a decent standard of living. This ensures that they can better cope with inflation and improve their overall quality of life,” the release stated.
The release went on to state that, “These relief measures reflect the government’s commitment to social welfare and support for its elderly citizens. It demonstrates the government’s recognition of the valuable contributions that pensioners have made to society throughout their working lives and serves as a form of appreciation for their service.”
“The disbursements also have a positive economic impact, as the injected funds stimulate local spending, benefiting businesses and the broader economy. By assisting pensioners in meeting their financial needs, the government indirectly supports local businesses and employment opportunities.
“Overall, this policy decision not only alleviates the financial stress of government pensioners but also reinforces the government’s dedication to social welfare and economic stability, making it a win-win for both the beneficiaries and the nation as a whole,” ended the release.
