Leon Hess Wins Ministry of Sports Under-19/ 50 Overs Tournament

Leon Hess Comprehensive Secondary School (LHCSS) are the 2023 Ministry of Youth Development and Sports Schools Under-19, 50 Overs Cricket Champions.

Khan Elcock hit a superb century and Aiden Scholar bagged a 5-wicket haul to give Leon Hess an impressive and well deserved 197 run victory over the St. Lucia Sports Academy (SLSA) in the finals, on Tuesday (April, 4), at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground [DSCG] ,

Sent in to take first knock, Leon Hess compiled a mammoth total, 281 all out in 40.2 overs. Team captain Elcock led from the front with a magnificent innings that propelled his team to victory

The classy left-handed batsman made a superb 102 in 94 balls, inclusive of 8 fours and 5 sixes; to follow up on his recent outstanding performance where he hit a century in the finals of the Sandals Under-19 Cricket Championships for the eventual winners – Gros Islet.

Other useful contributions came from Jewelle Simon with 43, Tristan Scholar with 30 and Isaiah Jones 28.

SLSA’s wicket-takers were medium pace bowler Jordan Emmanuel with 5 for 11 in 4 overs, Sheldon Willie 3 for 76 in 10 overs, Ashton Alexander 1 for 31 in 5.2 overs and skipper Kensley Paul 1 for 36 in 4 overs.

In reply, SLSA found the going tough, failing to negotiate Leon Hess’ spinners and were bowled out for 84 in 19.4 overs, with Kensley Paul making 26 and Zanakki Louis 15.

Left arm spin bowler, Scholar led the rout for Leon Hess with stand-out figures of 6 for 34 in 7.4 overs. Off-spinner Tori Hippolyte lent excellent support with 3 for 11 in 4 overs, while seamer Darvin Forde got 1 for 16 in 6 overs.

At the post match presentation, the following outstanding players were recognized and awarded for their individual performances during the tournament.
