Basketball Team Prepares for ALBA Games in Caracas, Venezuela

An Under 17 Basketball Team is gearing up for the ALBA Games in Venezuela from April 21-29, 2023. The participation of a team was made possible by the Ministry of Youth Development & Sports. The team is committed to giving their best, maintaining the momentum they gained in previous tournaments, and bringing home a win for their country.

The ALBA Games is the first significant event in international basketball that a team of this age will participate in.  The team’s preparation has been intense. The team has been practicing and analyzing their opponents’ strengths and weaknesses, perfecting their skill set and coordination, and improving their teamwork. The squad has been working hard and members are confident they will give their best performance at the games.

Leading the team is Coach Ron, who has emphasized the importance of mental toughness and resilience. He said the games will be a test of the team’s skills, focus, and mental toughness, and the need to stay motivated and driven to succeed.

Along with Coach Ron will be Coach Glen Guiste who will be assisting with the technical aspects of the team and co-managing the team with Ms. Shauna Dantes (SLBF 1st VP). This tournament will aide in the preparation of a team for the upcoming Windward Islands Schools Games. The team is set to leave the island today April 15th, 2023.

The team Is made up of some of the talented and dedicated young basketball players in the country. They have been putting in long hours of practice and working together to achieve the quintessential team synergy that is required to play and win in international basketball.

Participation in the ALBA Games is not only significant for the team but for the entire nation. The team says it is ready to rise to the occasion and make history by not only participating but also bringing home a win.
