SLFA League Cup Matches up for Title Grabs

The SLFA Inc. Island Cup, continued, Monday, with three matches played in the Premier League and one semifinal encounter in the Super League.

At the Desruisseaux Playing Field, Canaries and Gros Islet played to a hard fought 2 – 2 draw. Scoring for Gros Islet were Aaron Richard and Troy Greenidge in the 4th and 27th min, while Dhriv Jn. Baptiste in the 32nd and Duayne Jn. Baptiste a penalty in the 69th min netted for Canaries.

Jaime Prospere scored a lone goal for Dennery in the 58th min, to edge out Central Castries 1 – 0.

At the Soufriere Mini Stadium, in their final match of the Premier League La Clery solidified their top position with a 4 – 1 victory over Mabouya Valley.

La Clery’s goal scorers were Kerry Joseph 11th min, Shaquille Williams an own goal in the 52nd, Andrus Remy 83rd and Michele Pitragostin in the 87th min.

Canius Sandiford got one for M Valley in the 38th min.

Meanwhile, in a semifinal match of the Super League; Laborie got past Anse la Raye 1-nil, with a goal from Simeon Alexander in the 14th min. Notably, the Anse la Raye team were issued three red cards in the game.

In other updates, three FIFA representatives, namely  Jordan Victoire, – FIFA Regional Office Development Coordinator, Jair Bertoni FIFA Director Member for the Associations of Americas and Herve Blanchard, FIFA Regional Office Development Manager are currently on island to dialogue with the SLFA management team.

On Monday, the FIFA officials held discussions with newly elected President Lyndon Cooper, General Secretary Victor Reid and Asst. General Secretary with responsibility for Infrastructure and Projects Development Evastus Augustin.

According to an SLFA spokesperson, the main purpose of the three-day visit is to assist the SLFA Inc. “to develop and review the overall master plan as it pertains to its Football Infrastructure Development and more specifically the advancement of the ongoing Goal Project.”

During their stay here, the FIFA representatives are scheduled to visit all the sites of the FIFA funded SLFA’s Inc. Football Infrastructure Development Projects.
