SLFA Cup Finals This Sunday

Gros Islet is scheduled to take on La Clery in the finals of the SLFA Inc. Island Cup, on Sunday (February, 19) at the Soufriere Mini Stadium.

The finalists got through the semi-final berth convincingly over their opponents; Gros Islet beat Canaries 4-0 – the defending champion, while La Clery got past Marchand 2-0.

The semifinals took place, last Sunday, at the Desruisseaux Playing Field before an appreciative crowd.

Gros Islet goal scorers were Brandon Eugene in the 5th minute, Amaris Gilbert 42nd minute, Aaron Richard 68th minute and Troy Greenidge in the 73rd minute.

La Clery earned a hard-fought victory over Dennery. The suburban City lads made their work lighter with two early conversions, an early own goal from Nathan Frederick in the 2nd minute of play, and then seven minutes later Rayham Cooper netted.

Prior to the finals, Canaries and Dennery will battle it out for the third place playoffs.

Meanwhile, matches continued in the SLFA’s Inc. Zonal Boys Club competition over the weekend.

Two Under-17 matches were played last Saturday. New Generations hammered Diamond Ballers 20 – 0. They got their goals from Riquelme Lionel 5th, 24th, 36th, 39th and 55th minutes. Baggio Edward 11th, 28th, 30th, 38th and 45th minutes, Deavai Edward 49th minute, Shervon Byran 58th minute, Girthie Lionel 24th minute, Kenny Francois 64th minute, Jaedon Stanislaus 69th minute and Quan Herman in the 77th minute.

Black Eagles and Victory Eagles played to a 2 – 2 draw. Scoring for Black Eagles were Jaden Denis 3rd and Jaden Gabriel 30th minutes , while Lion Samuel and Anthony Williams scored for Victory Eagles in the 37th and 89th minutes.

In the Women Senior competition played, last Saturday, at the Desruisseaux Playing Field, the home team Desruisseaux, defeated Central Castries 4 – 1. Their goal scorers were Kayla Camille 39th minute, Meurissa Prince 68th minute, Shamy Prince a penalty in the 78th minute, and Emma Clovis in the 80th minute.

Scoring for Central Castries was Destiny Daniel in the 49th minute.

The National Under -20 defeated Vieux Fort South 4 – 0; with  goals from Arnicka Louis in the 8th and 42nd minutes, Clowie William 2nd minute and Kirsheena Ince in the 1st minute.
