More Goals in SLFA inc. Women Soccer Contest

Another goal-scoring spree highlighted the action in the St. Lucia Football Association [SLFA] Inc. Senior Women competition.

And this time, it was the turn of Canaries as they went on a rampage to demolish Desruisseaux 15 – nil, at the Desruisseaux Playing Field last Saturday.

Scorers for Canaries included Cassandra Shepherd with goals in 17th, 19th 39th, 48th and 89th minutes, hat tricks from Kayla Solomon 3rd, 45th, 78th minutes, Tanika Bernard72nd, 74th and 76th minutes, Thea Auguste 14th and 33rd minutes, Tangi Lansiquot 5th minute and Ava Victor 43rd minute.

On Sunday, at the Soufriere Mini Stadium, Soufriere earned a hard fought 2 – 1 victory over the National Under-20 team.

Amber Lucien converted in the 4th minute and Sasha Nicholas in the 40th. For Soufriere, Freegeanne Joseph pulled one back for the National U20s in the 87th minute.

Anse la Raye defeated Central Castries 4 – 0, with goals from Britney Moncherry an own goal in the 5th minute, Trenice St. Croix in the 28th and 47th minutes and Aunjel Augustin in the 59th minute.

Meanwhile, matches continued in the SLFA’s Inc. Under 17 Zonal Boys Club competition played at the Technical Centre in Grande Riviere, Dennery.

In the opening match, last Saturday, Pioneers outplayed Bays FC 10 – 3. For Pioneers, goals came from Shian Medrick in the 12th and 71st minutes, Lama Cazaubon 55th and 66th minutes, Jayshan Barthelmy 22nd minute, Cherquan St. Croix 33rd minute, Kaury Pelage 39th minute, Deandre Poyotte 49th minute, Jean Louis Daniel an own goal in the 68th minute and Nazim Small 79th minute.

Scoring for Bays FC were Kervayan Solomon, Nickel Anthony and Ernilus Edward in the 28th, 46th and 58th minutes respectively.

Victory Eagles and Uptown Rebels played to an exciting 2 – 2 draw following a 1 – 1 stalemate at the half.

Scoring for Victory Eagles were Anthony Williams, 19th minute and an own goal from Gilbert Alphonse in the 49th minute, while Uptown Rebels got their goals from Lindell Augustin in the 7th minute and Keshon Jn. Paul in the 66th minute.

GMC defeated VSADC 5 – 0, with goals from Jayden Etienne13th and 56th minutes, Josh George 23rd minute, Alex Daniel an own goal in the 65th minute and Donta Greene in the 74th minute.

On Sunday, from another heavy goal scorcher, Piton Travel Young Stars defeated Hill Top Ballers 11 – 0.

Goal scorers were Larcell Franguharson 7th, 24th, 29th minutes, Jaden Francois 10th and 33rd minutes, Alex Prospere 31st and 54th minutes, Edd Nestor 42nd and 44th minutes and Ethan Andrew in the 12th minute.

In more updates, four Under -20 male Saint Lucian footballers left the island, on Monday (January 20) to attend a developmental programme, in Germany.

The programme is an undertaking between the SLFA Inc. and Next Level Talent of Germany.

According to an SLFA official, the players will initially be involved in the programme for one month, undergoing a training regime, with prospects for an extension as well as attachment to German or European clubs, based on their performance.

The players were called up to train with the National Senior Men’s team last year in preparation for the CONCACAF Nation’s League. They are; Daren Donaie, Shaquan Nelson, Daneo Caroo and Kendal Clarke.

The entire cost of the programme for these players, inclusive of flights, registration, accommodation etc. is being borne by the SLFA Inc.
