Veterans Compete in Pink Cup for Cancer Awareness

Sixteen veteran teams will participate in friendly rivalry over a two-day event, this weekend, to raise funds to assist cancer patients.

The Kick For A Cure Championship initiative organized by the Veterans in Sports (VIS) Inc. will witness veteran footballers competing competing for the Pink Cup, on Saturday and Sunday.

Matches will be of 25 minutes per half and teams from communities across the island will be on show. Fifteen local teams will be highlighted along with the Island Masters touring team from Canada.

CEO of VIS Inc. Alvin Malaykhan described the activity as “a weekend of excitement.”

A heavy dose of live musical entertainment will feature top local artistes performing over the two days. The star-studded lineup includes; Michael Robinson, King Arthur and Hyper D; and on Sunday , the performances continue with ‘A Night of Kings’ featuring Invader, Fross , Ricky T and Teddyson “TJ” John , “so it’s going to be really exciting…fans will be making  a contribution of just $15, not a ticket fee.”

Malaykhan urged the public to support a worthy cause and “come for the football and stay for the entertainment…all in support of cancer awareness.”

Said Malaykhan: “The purpose of this tournament is really to raise funds for the Cancer Society and to raise awareness for cancer. As you know, cancer has touched mostly everyone in our society …and it something that we need to just continue fighting for on raising awareness. And with football…which is, ‘football is life’ we are going to use football to kick cancer out.”
