Team Saint Lucia to Participate in Rugby Americas Tournament

The Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) is down to participate in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) 7s tournament to be held in Mexico from 11-13 November11 to 13. 

.

Team Saint Lucia’s contingent consists of 27 players and 5 officials.

The female team includes ; Loianna Alexander, Marline Chery, Electra Marcelle, Mary Roberts, Nelta Samuel, Renetta Fredericks (captain) Kameka President, Shena St Mark, Makeba Alcide, Kera Dornelly, Allana Paul, Shawnette St Juste, Nollie Sylvestre and Shammah Philgence.

The male team consists of Ethan Philip, Elvin Moses, Ervin Moses, Neighman Lascaris, Nico Joseph, Flavien Gabriel (captain), Ernie Julien, Ron Eugene, Jesey Francios, Lenford Eugene, Jeano Henry, Malyle Chery and Omarrie Stanislaus.

The five officials are Wayne Pantor, Roger Butcher, Meraius James, Zhenya C. Allain and Senetta Vigier.

According to the management unit, the teams consists of a mixture of senior players, youth and foreign based players.

This will be Saint Lucia’s first RAN 7s tournament since 2019. The RAN 7s competition will act as a qualifying tournament for the Centro Caribe Games in 2023 and the 2023 Pan American Games.

Most notably, the Saint Lucia Rugby Football Union disclosed that Saint Lucia has been made a full member of World Rugby. SLRFU President Roger Butcher said that, “This is indeed a significant milestone for rugby in Saint Lucia. This achievement could only have been attained with support and assistance from all sections of the rugby fraternity, the SLRFU Executive, Technical Director, the players and Rugby Americas North.”

He added, “In addition, support and assistance from the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee Inc, National Lotteries, Saint Lucia Tourist Board and LUCELEC. The SLRFU is truly humbled by this accolade bestowed on the Union and will continue to work assiduously to develop the game of rugby on the island.”
