The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Site has decreased the number of events held face-to-face for the past two years in light of the COVID-19 pandemic in Saint Lucia. Simultaneously, students have been faced with financial hurdles as many have suffered loss of employment or decrease in income. While several initiatives have been put in place to assist such students, like the UWI Alumni Association’s Social Mediathon held in July, 2022 and other available scholarship/endowment funds, it is incumbent on our part to find other ways in which we can assist our students and the community at large.
This summer, The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Site in collaboration with Bethel Tabernacle has embarked on a Summer Book Exchange initiative that seeks to soften the financial blow of purchasing school books and supplies. Interested persons can donate new or used school books in good condition (from the book lists for September 2022-23) and/or school supplies (eg file sheets, notebooks, crayons, pencils, packets of paper, folders etc) towards this important cause. Book lists for infant, primary and secondary schools can be sourced on https://www.open.uwi.edu/st_lucia/notices .
The Summer Book Exchange initiative will take place on Friday 12th – Saturday 13th August, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Tabernacle located in Sans Souci, Castries.
Given that the Government seems to be hell bent on making sure that every person in St.Lucia ( from Babes in Arms to Residents of Care Homes ) is in possession of a Tablet/Laptop etc
Why not just scan all the Schools Books and make them available online
Just do away with this money making Book Scam which imposes such an unnecessary burden upon parents of children in St.Lucia
