Julien Alfred Sets Record Sprint Run

Saint Lucian student-athlete Julien Alfred has been having an eventful and productive year, thus far, winning a major sprint event over the past weekend.

According to sports reports, Alfred who is currently ranked at #5 in the world’s top list for the 60 meters indoor; won the 60-meter final at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational in a time of 7.26 seconds, last weekend.

Representing the University of Texas, and competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational from February 11-12, Julien ran 7.16s in the prelims and 7.15s in the semifinals but ran 7.26s for the win in the 60m dash. She also ran 23.21s for 4th place in the 200m dash.

Another St Lucian student-athlete who set a new national record was Jaryl Bernard, who broke his own national weight throw record; with a throw of 15.47m for a 1st place finish, competing at the 2022 Tom Bond Invitational on February, 12.

Other Saint Lucian student-athletes competing at the Tiger Paw Invitational, last weekend, also put in some favorable performances.

Michael Joseph, representing the University of Kansas,  ran an indoor personal best of 21.53s in the 200m for 39th, 47.73s for 24th, and split 46.5s in the 4x400m where his team finished 9th  (3:10.32).

Armani Modeste, competing for Ohio State University at the Tiger Paw Invitational, ran an indoor personal best of 21.43s for 35th  in the 200M, 48.16s for 30th  in the 400m, and split 47.07s in the 4x400m where his team finished 7th (3:09.90s).
