The new Chairman of the United Workers Party (UWP) Andy Daniel says the party is now at a regrouping, rebuilding and reconnecting stage.
Daniel who has a long history with the party was appointed Chairman as of December 5, 2021. According to him the party may have lost the general elections but it is not broken.
“I accept the mandate given to me wholeheartedly and with extreme gratitude. I take this opportunity to express on behalf of the Party its deepest appreciation to all past chairpersons, most recently Mr. Pinkly Francis and Mr. Oswald Augustin.
“As we get ready for our annual convention due 2022, I implore you to remember the mission and values of this great party: we aim to be the preferred political party of Saint Lucia by remaining relevant, innovative and transparent,” Daniel told reporters Thursday.
Daniel the party’s executive will execute the mandate given and be an even more efficient voice of the people in opposition.
“We are ready for the journey ahead,” he said.
According to him democracy and good governance require a vibrant and functional opposition which the United Workers Party will provide.
“It was this Party in 2011 – 2016 that kept the then SLP administration in check and highlighted all of their broken promises of jobs, jobs and jobs.
“It was this United Workers Party which reminded the Labour Party every budgetary cycle of its broken promise of injecting 100 million dollars into the economy immediately. And it is still this United Workers Party that will have the Labour Party account to the people of Saint Lucia,” Daniel said.
It is this United Workers Party that is reminding the Labour Party of the $1500 economic relief promised during the election campaign and the payment of Income tax refunds during its first 100 days in office. We are calling on the SLP administration to keep all of the promises made to the electorate.
Be assured that this United Workers Party will be ready to take the reign of governance once again in keeping with the constitution of Saint Lucia.
I thank you.
