“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Peter Drucker
My grandfather used to say long life is a blessing, and if someone is blessed to live a long life, he/she will experience many things that he/she would have never thought possible in their lifetime. He died at 91 and his memory is alive in my thoughts. As I live in the twilight of my years, I am blessed to have had the benefit of his wise counsel. He told me many stories which equipped me for life. Today’s generation has not enjoyed the storytelling moments like those of us who were born in the good old days, (post world war 2) when the young listened attentively to the old and in many instances, the lessons learned from the many stories were etched in our minds.
As I prepare to mark another birth anniversary, thanking my Creator for a long and healthy life, I happen to be living in a world where I could have never imagined that mankind would have been experiencing a life so filled with anxieties and uncertainties. The beauty of our faces is now covered as we traverse the streets and even in enclosed areas, wherein many instances we can hardly identify the other person. In spite of all that is happening, it is still a wonderful world where plans for the future are being drawn up in every sphere of our human existence.
We are no longer excited to meet millionaires; they are now ordinary people, billionaires maybe, but the emphasis when it comes to wealth in today’s world has moved to trillionaires. All this emphasis on wealth began with the advancement of technology and new opportunities in the Stock and Currency markets, the latter fuelled by Bitcoin in the second decade of the 21st century. The race is on in areas of creativity and innovation. In the meantime what are we in the Caribbean doing to be players in the Investment space? Are we trying to find out and learn more about the latest platform known as Metaverse? Some fantastic outcomes are expected from this latest platform. Barbados is already positioning itself to be the leader in the Caribbean in applying the offerings of this new platform as a space to promote its global Foreign Affairs strategy. In spite of the uncertain world political environment, lots of exciting things are happening. The movers and shakers in the investment space are not holding back, they are bullish like never before. Return on investment has never been better. These are all developments that have taken the world by surprise as they are released into the market.
The end of yet another challenging year draws nigh and many of us are very optimistic about the future as we get a handle on COVID 19 pandemic. What lessons have we learned during the period of the surge of the Coronavirus and its variants? 1. That you can be Resilient even during times of a pandemic by applying discipline. 2. That high yield Investment opportunities are always available, just find them or create them. 3. That investments shouldn’t be made based on emotions. Research the opportunity before investing. 4. That by staying positive, and focused, it is possible to succeed in the most difficult times. 5. That it is important to network and be active in your Business/Professional Association. 6. That mentorship is important and the necessity to subscribe to motivational programmes is vital.
This is no time to give up. Your best life could be just ahead of us. It can only get better if the trend related to the pandemic holds. In the meantime, continue to adhere to the protocols and get vaccinated. The next time we meet through this column, I hope to proudly state that I received my BOOSTER. Join me and do what is right to save your life and that of others.
Our Creator has promised to protect us as long as we live in his will. Stay safe and be blessed.
