Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd. Helping Transform Saint Lucia’s Sustainability Agenda

As an agent of sustainable change in Saint Lucia, Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd. continues to advance work with communities to foster care for a better planet. This comes on the heels of the company’s recommitment to REPLAST, a programme aimed at incentivizing plastic waste collection and recycling scheme in Saint Lucia. What originated as a Pilot Plastic Recycling Project in 2019, has steadily morphed into a more sustained framework for managing plastic waste on the island, having recently recommenced operations on November 13, 2021.

Managing Director of Heineken Saint Lucia Thibault Mesqui shared “Our commitment as a company towards Brewing a Better World, is a balance between environmental and social work, and responsible consumption. Sustainable design has been at the forefront of our packaging over the last few years, and we believe the work that REPLAST has achieved over the last year has been invaluable in creating shared and sustainable value for all stakeholders and by extension Saint Lucia. REPLAST for us at Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd represents the possibility of how we can indeed shift behaviors and attitudes towards creating a more circular economy.”

“Our championing of REPLAST and by extension UNITE Caribbean, has been multi-layered through financial aid, support with marketing logistics and, provision of our products for redemption on their Marketplace platform.  Our hope for 2022 is that we can leverage the learnings from REPLAST as a country for the establishment of the first-ever PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) deposit system in Saint Lucia.” Mesqui further added.

Further aligned with its sustainability pillar of maximizing circularity, the company recently concluded an extensive island-wide Bottle Blitz during November aimed at collecting returnable glass bottles.

Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd will continue to support the REPLAST Collection locations for the remainder of the year as follows, Rodney Heights Aquatic Centre, Gros Islet, and Citrus Grove, Laborie:  December 11, 2021, Vieux Fort Independence Square, and Constitution Park Castries: December 18, 2021.  To learn more about Heineken Saint Lucia Ltd.’s Brewing a Better World agenda visit www.heinekensaintlucia.com .
