One of Saint Lucia’s most respected Police Commissioners Vernon Augustin passed away this week.
His passing caused many Saint Lucians who knew him to take to social media to express their sadness, including the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF).
The Force on its Facebook page described Augustin’s passing as a “tremendous loss”, which will be enshrined in RSLPF history.
Augustin, who dedicated most of his life in service, served as the head of the RSLPF from 1994 to 1997. The veteran officer conceptualised the Ex Police Organisation, founded on July 14, 1994, an agency which provides a vital support system for former serving members.
“(He was) always available to share his wealth of knowledge with any and every officer he encountered. Known for his impressive deportment, even in retirement, he could be found scolding officers who didn’t measure up to the strictest of standards,” the RSLPF noted in its Facebook post.
Augustin, who was affectionately known as “5 Augustin”, will be remembered by members of the RSLPF as one who gave his all to ensure the furtherance of the organisation.
“His passing is a tremendous loss to the service he helped mold through the years,” the RSLPF said in its post.
The RSLPF announced the death of Augustin on Tuesday.
