Saint Lucia Records 46 New COVID-19 Cases

PRESS RELEASE — The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs today Friday, October 1, 2021, confirms a total of forty-six (46) new cases of COVID-19. These cases were processed on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Ezra Long Laboratory from a total of 282 samples which were collected between September 28 and 30, 2021. This number of positive cases makes up 16.3% of all the samples processed on that date. These new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in- country to date to 11, 573.

The Ministry of Health also reports four (4) new COVID-19 deaths and two (2) new COVID-19 related deaths. All these deaths occurred during the period September 14, 2021 to September 28, 2021. To date, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in country is 160 and the total number of COVID-19 related deaths is 47.

COVID-19 death #157 is a 93 year old female from the Castries district. COVID-19 death #158 is a 63 year old female of the Vieux- Fort district. COVID-19 death #159 is a 57 year old female from the Vieux- Fort district. COVID-19 death #160 is a 64 year old male from the Castries district. COVID-19 related death #46 is a 44 year old male from the Castries district. COVID-19 related death #47 is a 55 year old male from the Castries district.

The Ministry of Health extends condolences to the bereaved families, friends and loved ones of all of these individuals.

Confirmation was also received of the recovery of 117 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the number of active cases in-country to 1,471. Four (4) individuals are in critical state while twelve (12) others are severely ill at the Respiratory Hospital.

To date, a total of 36,059 individuals have received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and 29,698 have received the second dose. A total of 10,276 individuals have received the first dose and 3,237 individuals have received the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine.

Vaccinations will continue tomorrow Saturday, October 2, 2021 at the Vigie Sports Complex and the Vieux Fort Wellness Center Grounds. Vaccinations are scheduled for distribution at both sites from 9 am to 2 pm.
