This past weekend   video recordings emerged from the Facility depicting inmates attempting to capture the attention of the outside world by singing extemporaneously; but in a more somber video an inmate is filmed lying on the floor of his cell in obvious physical distress.

The Facility’s management stated that contrary to the impression social media observers may have garnered that no attention was being provided to the distressed inmate, prison authorities have confirmed the man in the video on Sunday October 24th, received medical attention, was stabilized and is recuperating.

Director of the Bordelais Correctional Facility Mr. Hilary Herman says of the 27 inmates who have so far been placed in quarantine, only one individual has been transported to hospital.  The other inmates remain under the close watch of medical staff but the situation was deemed to be stable at the time of this report.

“Currently we have isolated inmates who have received positive results as well as those who are adhering to the two weeks in quarantine protocol. We’ve made some adjustments to accommodate the situation as we await more outcomes from the Ezra Long Laboratory.  We have some test- results from the contact tracing that is pending and with the support of the Ministry of Health and the medical staff, in-house testing has been administered to help the process along. It is tough on our resources right now as can be imagined but   this is something we are attempting to handle as best we can; because if the virus is prevalent out there in the community, it increases the risk that someone is going to be brought in here with it.”

On Thursday, October 21, 2021, the Ezra Long Laboratory reported that twenty-seven of its recorded cases are from the Bordelais Correctional Facility. In light of this recent development, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs continues to work closely with the management of the Bordelais Correctional Facility to contain   the internal spread of the virus.
