UNICOMER OECS has announced the winners of its OECS jingle competition, We Are All Essential. The winners are from the islands of Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.
Unicomer OECS Social Media Influencer and five times Groovy Soca Monarch, Arthur Allain, of Saint Lucia was a part of the campaign that was developed in support of the broader public health program to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The competition required participants to craft a 30 second jingle encouraging persons to play their part in the fight against COVID-19, by practicing healthy habits and being socially responsible.
Ja’del Demarque, a Grade 6 student of the Dame Pearlette Louisy Primary School from St. Lucia, won the student category of the competition. In the adult category, Amayah George from Dominica, Joiya Charles from St. Lucia and Tyrique Thomas from St. Vincent emerged winners. “Thank you so much Unicomer for recognizing my talent. I’m so happy, I can’t believe I won,” Ja’del said excitedly. The winners in the adult category each received EC$2,500 and the student EC$1,500.
The judging panel consisted of Unicomer team members and lead judge Arthur Allain. Arthur remarked, “It was intriguing to be on the opposite end of the judge’s pen. It was clear during the process that some persons put a lot of effort into their submissions, they really went all out and the vocals and melody on the jingles were very impressive. I was amazed by what I saw coming from participants and hope to see some of them follow through to develop their talents.”
Video submissions of the winning jingle submissions have been uploaded to @courtsstlucia on Facebook and Instagram.
