CONGRATULATIONS are pouring in for three members of the police force who have been promoted to executive positions within the organization.
George Nicholas, Dr. Mashama Sealy and Wayne Charlery, all long serving members of the police force, were promoted by the Public Service Commission.
Nicholas and Sealy were promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police effective Monday 17 may, 2021
The two have both acted in the capacity previously, with ACP Nicholas having served as the ACP with responsibility for Territorial Policing, Crime Management and Operations, and ACP Sealy having served as the ACP with responsibility for Crime Management and Territorial Policing.
Their promotions mark their appointments as members of the Executive of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.
Charlery’s promotion to Deputy Commissioner of Police comes into effect 1 June, 2021. He has served as the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Operations, as well as Crime Management. He has also served as the Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Operations in the past.
The promotions come at a time of heightened violent crime in the country, which has already recorded 22 homicides for the year.
The police force, already battered with the fiasco of what is known as IMPACS and government’s inability to deal with this particular matter, and having to face rising COVID-19 cases, a curfew and a state of emergency, will have its work cut out for it in the coming months.
Whether the promotions will energise the force to be the type of law enforcement body the country needs is unknown for now.
