If we have HOPE, we have joy and peace, and all the other virtues that make life worth living. I cannot over emphasize the point that we live in chaotic times when nothing seems to be moving towards making the world a better place. It is unfortunate but POLITICIANS are at the centre of the myriad of problems that face the citizens of the world today. What is happening in China, Russia, North Korea, Iran, Israel, Syria, Pakistan, and the USA today? Uncertainty and anxiety are rife. No one knows what to expect next. The political leaders of the developed nations must take responsibility for the state that the peoples of this world find themselves.
The world’s leaders at one time were guided by what is best for their citizens and many conflicts were averted. Major human disasters were handled collectively, and as a result gave birth to many multi-lateral institutions. Prior to the arrival of Donald J. Trump as President of the USA, the world was a different place. America led the way economically, and demonstrated the virtues of a Democratic State. America was at the forefront, and was considered the leader of the free world.
President Trump created a following of persons whom he taught to create their own laws and took unconstitutional actions in many instances, trampling upon the rights of the majority. The insurrection of January 6, 2021 demonstrated the impact President Trump has on his followers. God does not give his people more than they can bear. In spite of President Trump’s continuing efforts in sowing seeds of discord, the entry of President Joe Biden and his team in a couple of months have redirected the affairs of the United States of America, and have taken their rightful place on the world’s stage.
The turn of the century has seen a constant deterioration in the way citizens react to instructions set out by Governments. Many defy legislative decisions and behave in ways to their own detriment. Obedience to the law of the land is important. COVID-19 presented an opportunity for citizens to obey the protocols but until now, too many citizens refuse to adhere to the protocols, especially the wearing of masks and social distancing. There is always an event or holiday that puts persons in a position to choose between Health and Sickness – where too many choose the latter. Rather than giving the gains an opportunity to advance, there is in almost every instance, the progress is receded. People must learn to control their emotions and apply patience.
In the midst of all the uncertainties, how do we keep hope alive? There has never been a greater need for Inspired and Highly Motivated Leadership in all areas of life. It is evident that the politicians will be the principal players. It is incumbent upon them to encourage Collective Thinking and Decision Making.
This is the time to bring the best minds to the table and encourage meaningful participation. Political leaders must be able to get beyond party politics and involve persons who can make a contribution to the future progress of their country and by extension the world. This is a time to exhort the citizens of every nation to be hopeful. It is necessary for Story Tellers and Motivational Speakers to embark on a crusade to tell the citizens about the journey of their race throughout the years. In the case of the English Speaking Caribbean, to share pre independence and post independence history. The proposed national exercise should be well documented and produced in books to be distributed in schools and for general readership.
There should be a parallel group seeking out creative avenues of providing much needed jobs to give the citizens, the independence they so desperately need.
Regardless of the state of the world today, we can be assured that if the right principles are applied, there are a number of solutions that could be found to make our world a better place.
