Labour Party candidate for Micoud North, Jeremiah Norbert, on Sunday gave the island and his constituents an update on his current medical condition and his aspirations to become their representative.
Norbert was involved in a gruesome motorcycle accident that resulted in the young politician requiring medical treatment in Martinique to save his leg.
In a thirteen-minute-long video, he informed that the doctors were unable to save his leg, however, that did not spell the end of his political ambitions. “This is just God working through me, to show persons that we can achieve absolutely anything, with or without a leg,” he said with conviction.
The courageous Norbert also made a mighty prediction to the constituents of Micoud North saying that, after the next general elections, he will be the representative of the constituency.
In visible good spirits, Norbert thanked but was careful not to name the many individuals and organizations (for fear of leaving anyone out) around him who continues to make his rehabilitation easier. He did, however, mention his personal doctor, his wife, who has been by his side since the accident and has remained with him on the French island.
Although he isn’t scheduled to return to Saint Lucia for another few weeks, Norbert concedes that he is excited to continue on his political journey. He reminded the farmers and fishers that he is cognizant of their cries and concerns and has pledged to work hard to bring relief to them.
He also asked the youth who have been sidelined in employment and sports and single mothers to bare a bit of patience as “their rep” is coming to remedy their situation.
