Non-Approval of Ivermectin for Treatment of Covid-19

THE Department of Health and Wellness informs the public that the drug Ivermectin is not approved for the treatment of COVID-19 or neither can the drug prevent a person from contracting COVID-19.

Ivermectin is used mainly to treat roundworms, threadworms and other parasites in animals and has use in humans for head lice.

Studies have shown that the drug is effective in “in vitro” studies (that is tests outside a living cell) and any potential use in “in vivo” (that is inside a living cell) would require concentrations where the safety in humans has not been evaluated.

The Department of Health and Wellness strongly recommends the public against purchasing this from people and ingesting the drug.
