La Toc Home Destroyed by Fire

Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service was called into action yesterday Wednesday, January 6, as wooden dwelling in a remote area in La Toc, Castries was engulfed in flames.

According to fire officials, a distress call was made to the station at approximately 7:20 a.m. Three units were dispatched to the location, however, firefighters experienced difficulty tackling the blaze due to the houseā€™s remote location.

ā€œThe house was located in a completely remote area that couldnā€™t be reached with the fire appliances to carry out fire suppression.ā€

The house was completely destroyed and had it not been for assistance from quick-thinking neighbours, a nearby structure would have suffered a similar fate. ā€œA nearby house was salvaged by use of bucket brigade by neighboursā€, officials confirmed to The Voice.

There were no reports on loss of life and investigations are ongoing.
