Personnel from the Saint Lucia Fire Service was called into action yesterday Wednesday, January 6, as wooden dwelling in a remote area in La Toc, Castries was engulfed in flames.
According to fire officials, a distress call was made to the station at approximately 7:20 a.m. Three units were dispatched to the location, however, firefighters experienced difficulty tackling the blaze due to the house’s remote location.
“The house was located in a completely remote area that couldn’t be reached with the fire appliances to carry out fire suppression.”
The house was completely destroyed and had it not been for assistance from quick-thinking neighbours, a nearby structure would have suffered a similar fate. “A nearby house was salvaged by use of bucket brigade by neighbours”, officials confirmed to The Voice.
There were no reports on loss of life and investigations are ongoing.
