Approximately 90 St. Lucians Graduate in The UWI Open Campus Inaugural Virtual Graduation Ceremony

APPROXIMATELY 90 graduands attached to The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Site were among 8,500 members of The University of the West Indies Class of 2020 who officially graduated in January, 2021.

The Class of 2020 graduated with degrees, certificates and diplomas in a wide range of subject areas and the event was viewed by stakeholders within the Caribbean and beyond. Over 400 Open Campus students participated in this virtual Presentation of Graduates Ceremony: 302 Undergraduate, 90 Masters and 15 Doctoral degrees. Of these, approximately 90 students (including 10 Distinctions in Masters and 24 First Class Honours in Undergraduate degrees) emerged from The UWI Open Campus Saint Lucia Site.

The Open Campus 2020 Valedictorian was Mrs Latoya Atkinson, who graduated with First Class Honours in the BSc. Management Studies (Human Resource Management) programme. Mrs Atkinson was born in Nassau, Bahamas to Jamaican parents. The University conferred Honorary Doctorate Degrees on His Excellency the Rt. Hon. Dr. Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds of St. Kitts and Nevis and Mr. Franklyn McIntosh of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Sir Kennedy delivered the Keynote Address at The Open Campus Graduation.

In accordance with the University’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Presentation of Graduate Ceremonies were postponed to January 2021. As such, the 2020 Presentation of Graduates Ceremony for The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus was held virtually on Wednesday, January 13, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
