Rotary Club of Gros Islet hosted its youngest guest speaker in its history on Tuesday, 15th September 2020, via zoom. Mr. Ethan Carlton Glasgow, age 13, a Form 2 student at St. Mary’s College made a presentation to the club on ‘Bullying sucks’. He also commented on the sudden transition from face to face schooling to online learning and the hybrid teaching methods being employed at his school from the time the island reported its first case of the coronavirus on 13th March 2020.
Ethan explained that it was scary at first and unsettling but very soon students (parents and teachers) got used to online learning and doing assignments on their own. Ethan felt it made students become more independent and responsible for their learning. He missed his friends during this period and looked forward to returning to the classroom albeit only a few days a week. He described the new protocols of hand washing, sanitizing, temperature
checks on arrival and face masks to be worn all day. “It is our new normal,” he said, “with smaller classes and social distancing and no sports activities.”
Ethan is a member of the InterAct Club of the Rotary Club of Saint Lucia.
