AS corporate responsibility continues to mature at the St. Lucia Teachers’ Co-operative Union Ltd, one of the core values we have seen thriving at the institution is volunteerism.
The St. Lucia Teachers’ Co-operative Union (SLTCC) Ltd, which was established on June 23, 1984 was registered on August 28, 1986, to assist its members in improving their social and economical well-being. Although the services at the SLTCCU are targeted at teachers, and persons employed in teaching related institutions, the vision of the organization extends beyond the four walls to include social initiatives to educate and improve the lives of people in the wider community.
On Saturday February 29th, St. Lucia Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union – in keeping with one of its key principles “concern for community” – hosted a luncheon where 100 pre-packed meals were distributed to members of the Marchand community. This activity was held in its parking Lot. These meals were served by our staff and Officers who are always willing to volunteer their time to give back to the communities in which we operate. Other beneficiaries of this activity were the St. Lucy’s home for the elderly, located in the community as well. Deliveries were made to some of the sick and shut ins.
This initiative was undertaken as part of our annual “Share the Love” drive, where each year several persons within the community are provided with food vouchers. It is usually hosted and organized by the Union’s Education Committee.
Last year a new branch was opened in Vieux Fort, located upstairs the JQ Plaza. That branch has already committed to extending the “Share the Love” initiative to the South. This will take the form of a Health Fair at the Vieux Fort Square on Saturday, March 28th, 2020 from 9.00 a.m. to 3 p.m.
