THE Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards (SLBS) has pulled from the market for sale packages of a particular brand of cigarettes ZON, King Size, Full Flavor 20 class filter cigarettes which was found on sale during routine market surveillance.
The non-conforming cigarettes do not conform to SLNS 27: 2016 Specification for Labelling of Tobacco Products (CRS 26: 2013, MOD) to which compliance is mandatory.
The public is strongly advised not to purchase nor consume said product. Vendors are to cease the sale and distribution and submit any stock in their possession to the Saint Lucia Bureau of Standards for disposal.
A person who sells, offers for sale or supplies to another person any goods, service, process or practice for which a compulsory standard is declared, and which does not conform to that standard commits an offence under section 32 (a) of the Standard Act.
The public is advised that SLBS intends to prosecute anyone found selling or distributing this product and a person found guilty of an offence under Section 32 is liable on summary conviction to a fine of $10,000 and to an additional penalty of $1,000 for every day on which the offence continues or to imprisonment for 6 months.
