A SAINT Lucian student in Taiwan has secured the title of Global Culture Ambassador in Taiwan.
Ms. Louise George, who is a fluent Chinese (Mandarin) speaker has lived in Taiwan for over four years and is in her final year of a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology and Fisheries Science at National Keelung University.
She emerged as the winner from a competitive field vying for the Global Culture Ambassador title. Candidates were chosen from international University students in 153 colleges across Taiwan. Ten finalists were selected in the last phase of the competition and were assessed on their conduct of Cultural Missions in selected schools in Taiwan.
Through her missions, Ms. George shared various aspects of Saint Lucia’s culture and local life with students of National Keelung High School, helping to educate and inspire them. She introduced them to several hands-on activities which included playing traditional children’s games like “tikitok”, making bakes and cocoa tea, learning Kwéyòl and wearing Saint Lucia’s traditional dress.
She was presented with the award at an impressive ceremony attended by government and education officials, representatives from Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) and the Embassy of Saint Lucia. Ambassador Edwin Laurent extended congratulations to her and arranged for future collaboration and coordination with the Embassy in her new role of Cultural Ambassador.
