LAST weekend was a particularly busy time for the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force as they combated against the illegal activities that ensued. It began on Friday October 18th, when 25-year-old Noah Alex Valcin, also known as Alec, of Baron’s Drive, Soufriere, and 26-year-old Scion Gills of New Development, Soufriere, were both charged for causing the death of Shalom Cyril, and for the attempted murder of Sheldon Lucien on Bridge Street, Soufriere, on Saturday October 12th. Valcin and Gills were both escorted to court where they were remanded into custody until their next court appearance which is scheduled for November 27th, 2019.
Also on Friday October 18th, Jalix Howell, an 18-year-old resident of Morne Panache, Dennery, was arrested and charged for causing the death of 28-year-old Burk Baptiste, whose body was recovered in Dennery on October 15th, 2019. Howell was remanded into custody until the 21st of November, 2019. On Tuesday October 22nd, a 17-year-old from Dennery was also arrested in connection with the murder of Burk Baptiste. He was found in possession of a .380 pistol and seven rounds of ammunition. He is currently detained in police custody awaiting charges. The identity of this 17-year-old was not disclosed.
Three male occupants of a silver Honda civic, registration number 1908 were detained by officers attached to the traffic unit in Castries on Saturday October 19th, at approximately 11:10 am. The men were arrested in relation to a report of a robbery which occurred in Dennery on that same day. An undisclosed sum of money was reported to have been taken during this robbery. A .38 special revolver with two rounds of ammunition was recovered from the individuals – 43-year-old Ernie Charles of Grand Riviere Gros Islet, 42-year-old Kervin Hutchinson of Wilton’s Yard, Castries, and 26-year-old Sherquille Rosemaine of Rockhall, Castries. They were all formally charged for the offence of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition without a valid license.
Also on 19th October, at about 6:00 am, officers attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Vieux Fort responded to reports of a suspicious death when a lifeless body was found in Aupicon Vieux Fort. The identity of the person found dead was later revealed as Titus Joseph, who was a 45-year-old resident of the same area. At the time of the report it was alleged that Titus had sustained a stab wound. A post mortem examination has been conducted which revealed the cause of death as exsanguinations secondary to injury to the heart due to a stab wound to the chest. Five individuals were reported to be in custody in relation to this homicide. Police are appealing to persons with information pertaining to this matter to contact the Vieux Fort Police Station at 456-3905.
