THE SAB Playing Field will be a hive of football activity when the Saint Lucia Football Association stage the semifinal and finals of the inaugural Inter District Primary Schools Female Football competition on Friday 17th May 2019.
The semifinals will see District One playing District Eight and District Six playing District Four.
On Friday 10th, despite the absence of District Five, the inaugural South Zone competition lived up to the usual hype at the Phillip Marcellin Grounds in Vieux Fort.
The event which was witnessed by newly appointed Coach of the Senior Men’s Football Team, Jamaal Shabbaz, was quite competitive and thoroughly enjoyed by all.
District Six and Seven got the ball rolling and after some exciting football punctuated by a stellar moves by Jardel Emery, District Six emerged winners 1 – 0.
The lone goal was scored by Jardel Emery in the 5th minute.
The second match resulted in District Eight defeating District Six 2 – 0, with goals by Marissa Duncan in the 4th minute and Amaya Emmanuel in the 13th minute.
The final match of the day between District 8 and 7 was the most exciting and interesting of all the games played on the day.
This one literally had spectators on their feet and it was a joy witnessing the level of skill and passion displayed by the young lasses.
In the end, District Eight maintained their unbeaten run with a 1 – 0 victory courtesy of Theon Auguste’s goal in the 6th minute.
Overall the young females had fun and there was indeed evidence that they have a fair knowledge of the game. The level of skill and talent exhibited was quite encouraging.
At the end of the day the point standings were as follows. District Eight – 6 points; District Six – 3 points and District Seven – 0 points.
District Eight scored three goals in the competition and conceded none.
